Gunnar,

I appreciate all the work you are doing but most of us have a good idea how the system is staked against us small farmers. What I need is ways to succeed in our organic farming that includes animals, rotations, compost making, and building community. I am taking time to host many events at our farm to show others how we farm, provide all of our needs and even have electricity and fuel. Not everyone wants this way of life but they are interested so I continue meeting anyone that wants to see a way of life that I believe in.

I stopped my visa and credit cards and have only cash now.. and spend a few dollars more on local things I need to support the community.

As I am 76 years old I need help for many things and people do come to help haying, work with the horses, split the wood, learn about our horses. I constructed two approved apartments for those who want to try this lifestyle... a better use of money than investing in some new computer program. Any money I do have I repair things, buy old machinery and rebuild into something useful. And if I spend any money it is on compost that I can't make myself.... in a way that is my profit....it is an expense and I then deduct it from my taxes.

Community is a great idea but very difficult to make work over the long term... I need more ideas as to how to make it work.

matsfineoilsandflour.ca give us a look and make some suggestions.
